Nahma Sandrow, Librettist
Nahma Sandrow has written two award-winning off-Broadway musicals based on Yiddish material, Kuni-Leml and Vagabond Stars, as well as the music-theater piece Artemisia, Light and Shadow (set to seventeenth-century Italian arias). The fourth of her translations-adaptations from Yiddish to receive a serious production is about to open at Theater J. Vagabond Stars: A World History of Yiddish Theater remains a definitive work in the field, and she has written other books and articles about Yiddish, French, and other theatersShe has published feature articles and reviews in the NY Times, Theater Arts, and elsewhere.
